Birthday Trip to Stockholm
I’ve waited for this trip from the early summer when I decided to have my summer holiday in November. We actually travelled by two different vessels. For the Turku to Stockholm part we took the Viking Line’s M/S Viking Grace and for the Stockholm to Turku we took the Viking Line’s M/S Amorella. My all time favorite vessel so far is the M/S Viking Grace. It’s modern, we’ve always had excellent service while traveling and the Oscar à la Carte restaurant is exquisite and worth it. And once again Viking Grace didn’t disappoint.
We stayed at this wonderful boutique hotel in Old Town, The Collector’s Victory Hotel. We actually boarded to Stockholm on Tuesday at 6:30 AM, so super early. Our first mission (after leaving our luggages to the hotel) was to go for a breakfast! We headed out to the Greasy Spoon in Södermalm. We also visited the very interesting Vasa museum in Djurgården. Had a nice lunch in Nomad and after that we went to the Royal palace in Old Town. We explored the Royal Armory which was so cool! There’s so much to explore in the Old Town and if you want to warm up and fika, I highly recommend Chokladkoppen. Their kanelbulla (cinnamon roll) were huge and yummy! After walking for 25 km (15,5 miles) we ended up settling down for the evening in our hotel and dipped into the jacuzzi to relax our very sore legs.
For the 6th of November and for my birthday, we went and explored the Stockholm metro system. 😂 The train schedules were horrendous and we had to wait forever for the train to the Mall of Scandinavia. I don’t really care about shopping in malls, but the scenery was nice. From there we decided to go the Natural History museum of Sweden. There were so much to see and I recommend it, if you have the time. For the festive evening we had a reservation to the Djuret restaurant. I just can’t say enough and praise the place. I mean, the food, the atmosphere, the design and the service was exquisite and truly beyond! We would give it 10 out of 10, would recommend. For the topper of the festivities we went for a romantic walk along side the sea bank.
On Thursday we took it just slower and had a long and relaxing breakfast. The trip back to Turku on the M/S Amorella went okay. It was our first time in Amorella and the first impression was just okay. I would say that my favorite cruise ship is still Viking Grace, let’s see if my opinion changes when the new M/S Viking Glory vessel will start to sail between Turku and Stockholm.
Overall we had such a nice, relaxing, luxury filled, little holiday and birthday celebration that we are already planning our next short getaway to somewhere in the Europe.
